Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install spyder-common on Ubuntu.
What is spyder-common
spyder-common is:
Originally written to design Spyder (the Scientific PYthon Development EnviRonment), the spyderlib Python library provides ready-to-use pure-Python widgets: source code editor with syntax highlighting and code introspection/analysis features, NumPy array editor, dictionary editor, Python console, etc. It’s based on the Qt Python binding module PyQt5 (and is compatible with PySide since v2.2).
This package provides the common files.
There are three methods to install spyder-common on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install spyder-common Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install spyder-common using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install spyder-common
Install spyder-common Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install spyder-common using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install spyder-common
Install spyder-common Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install spyder-common using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install spyder-common
How To Uninstall spyder-common on Ubuntu
To uninstall only the spyder-common package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove spyder-common
Uninstall spyder-common And Its Dependencies
To uninstall spyder-common and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove spyder-common
Remove spyder-common Configurations and Data
To remove spyder-common configuration and data from Ubuntu we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge spyder-common
Remove spyder-common configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove spyder-common configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge spyder-common
