In this tutorial we learn how to install spirv-tools on Ubuntu.
What is spirv-tools
spirv-tools is:
The project includes an assembler, binary module parser, disassembler, validator, and optimizer for SPIR-V. Except for the optimizer, all are based on a common static library. The library contains all of the implementation details, and is used in the standalone tools whilst also enabling integration into other code bases directly. The optimizer implementation resides in its own library, which depends on the core library.
There are three methods to install spirv-tools on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install spirv-tools Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install spirv-tools using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install spirv-tools
Install spirv-tools Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install spirv-tools using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install spirv-tools
Install spirv-tools Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install spirv-tools using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install spirv-tools
How To Uninstall spirv-tools on Ubuntu
To uninstall only the spirv-tools package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove spirv-tools
Uninstall spirv-tools And Its Dependencies
To uninstall spirv-tools and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove spirv-tools
Remove spirv-tools Configurations and Data
To remove spirv-tools configuration and data from Ubuntu we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge spirv-tools
Remove spirv-tools configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove spirv-tools configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge spirv-tools
