In this tutorial we learn how to install spirv-cross on Ubuntu.
What is spirv-cross
spirv-cross is:
SPIRV-Cross is a tool designed for parsing and converting SPIR-V to other shader languages:
- Convert SPIR-V to readable, usable and efficient GLSL
- Convert SPIR-V to readable, usable and efficient MSL
- Convert SPIR-V to readable, usable and efficient HLSL
- Reflection API to simplify the creation of Vulkan pipeline layouts
- Reflection API to modify and tweak OpDecorations
- Supports “all” of vertex, fragment, tessellation, geometry and compute shaders
There are three methods to install spirv-cross on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install spirv-cross Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install spirv-cross using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install spirv-cross
Install spirv-cross Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install spirv-cross using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install spirv-cross
Install spirv-cross Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install spirv-cross using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install spirv-cross
How To Uninstall spirv-cross on Ubuntu
To uninstall only the spirv-cross package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove spirv-cross
Uninstall spirv-cross And Its Dependencies
To uninstall spirv-cross and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove spirv-cross
Remove spirv-cross Configurations and Data
To remove spirv-cross configuration and data from Ubuntu we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge spirv-cross
Remove spirv-cross configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove spirv-cross configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge spirv-cross
