What is speex
speex is:
Speex is an audio codec especially designed for compressing voice at low bit-rates for applications such as voice over IP (VoIP). In some senses, it is meant to be complementary to the Vorbis codec which places a greater emphasis on high-quality music reproduction.
This package contains the encoder and decoder command-line applications.
There are three methods to install speex on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install speex Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install speex using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install speex

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

After updating apt database, We can install speex using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install speex
Install speex Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

How To Uninstall speex on Ubuntu
To uninstall only the speex package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove speex

sudo apt-get -y autoremove speex
Remove speex Configurations and Data
To remove speex configuration and data from Ubuntu we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge speex
