In this tutorial we learn how to install speechd-el on Ubuntu.
What is speechd-el
speechd-el is:
speechd-el is an Emacs client and an Elisp library to Speech Dispatcher. It provides a complex speech interface to Emacs, focused especially on (but not limited to) the blind and visually impaired users. It allows the user to work with Emacs without looking on the screen, using the speech output produced by the synthesizers supported in Speech Dispatcher.
There are three methods to install speechd-el on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install speechd-el Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install speechd-el using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install speechd-el

Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install speechd-el using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install speechd-el
Install speechd-el Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install speechd-el using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install speechd-el
How To Uninstall speechd-el on Ubuntu
To uninstall only the speechd-el package we can use the following command:
