In this tutorial we learn how to install snapper-gui on Ubuntu.
What is snapper-gui
snapper-gui is:
Snapper-gui is a graphical user interface for the tool snapper for Linux filesystem snapshot management. It can compare snapshots and revert differences between snapshots. In simple terms, this allows root and non-root users to view older versions of files and revert changes
Currently works with btrfs, ext4 and thin-provisioned LVM volumes
There are three methods to install snapper-gui on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install snapper-gui Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install snapper-gui using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install snapper-gui
Install snapper-gui Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install snapper-gui using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install snapper-gui
Install snapper-gui Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install snapper-gui using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install snapper-gui
How To Uninstall snapper-gui on Ubuntu
To uninstall only the snapper-gui package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove snapper-gui
Uninstall snapper-gui And Its Dependencies
To uninstall snapper-gui and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove snapper-gui
Remove snapper-gui Configurations and Data
To remove snapper-gui configuration and data from Ubuntu we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge snapper-gui
