Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install smp-utils on Ubuntu.
What is smp-utils
smp-utils is:
Utilities that send a Serial Attached SCSI (SAS) Management Protocol (SMP) request to a SMP target. If the request fails then the error is decoded. If the request succeeds then the response is either decoded, printed out in hexadecimal or output in binary. This package supports multiple interfaces since SMP passthroughs are not mature. This package supports the Linux 2.6 series.
There are three methods to install smp-utils on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install smp-utils Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install smp-utils using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install smp-utils
Install smp-utils Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install smp-utils using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install smp-utils
Install smp-utils Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install smp-utils using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install smp-utils
How To Uninstall smp-utils on Ubuntu
To uninstall only the smp-utils package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove smp-utils
Uninstall smp-utils And Its Dependencies
To uninstall smp-utils and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove smp-utils
Remove smp-utils Configurations and Data
To remove smp-utils configuration and data from Ubuntu we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge smp-utils
