Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install smbldap-tools on Ubuntu.
What is smbldap-tools
smbldap-tools is:
Set of scripts to manage data relative to users and groups stored in an LDAP server. The tools manage POSIX, shadow and Samba (3.0 series) accounts and groups.
This package is used to add/del/mod users and groups in the Linux Samba-OpenLDAP Howto http://download.gna.org/smbldap-tools/docs/samba-ldap-howto/
There are three methods to install smbldap-tools on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install smbldap-tools Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install smbldap-tools using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install smbldap-tools
Install smbldap-tools Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install smbldap-tools using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install smbldap-tools
Install smbldap-tools Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install smbldap-tools using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install smbldap-tools
How To Uninstall smbldap-tools on Ubuntu
To uninstall only the smbldap-tools package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove smbldap-tools
