In this tutorial we learn how to install slepc-dev on Ubuntu.
What is slepc-dev
slepc-dev is:
SLEPc is a software library for the solution of large scale sparse eigenvalue problems on parallel computers. It is an extension of PETSc and can be used for either standard or generalized eigenproblems, with real or complex arithmetic. It can also be used for computing a partial SVD of a large, sparse, rectangular matrix.
This is a dependency package which depends on the latest version of SLEPc.
There are three methods to install slepc-dev on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install slepc-dev Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install slepc-dev using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install slepc-dev
Install slepc-dev Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install slepc-dev using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install slepc-dev
Install slepc-dev Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install slepc-dev using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install slepc-dev
How To Uninstall slepc-dev on Ubuntu
To uninstall only the slepc-dev package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove slepc-dev

To uninstall slepc-dev and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove slepc-dev
