In this tutorial we learn how to install skkdic-extra on Ubuntu.
What is skkdic-extra
skkdic-extra is:
This package provides various dictionary files, such as
SKK-JISYO.zipcode',SKK-JISYO.geo’,SKK-JISYO.station',SKK-JISYO.emoji’,SKK-JISYO.jinmei',SKK-JISYO.fullname’,SKK-JISYO.law',SKK-JISYO.pinyin’, and so on, except `SKK-JISYO.L’ as the standard dictionary file provided by the skkdic package, for SKK Japanese input systems.
To merge or edit dictionaries, install the skktools package. To use dictionaries more conveniently, several SKK dictionary servers are available, such as dbskkd-cdb and skksearch.
There are three methods to install skkdic-extra on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install skkdic-extra Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install skkdic-extra using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install skkdic-extra

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install skkdic-extra using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install skkdic-extra
How To Uninstall skkdic-extra on Ubuntu
To uninstall only the skkdic-extra package we can use the following command:
