Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install sipcalc on Ubuntu.
What is sipcalc
sipcalc is:
Sipcalc is an advanced console-based IP subnet calculator. It can take multiple forms of input (IPv4/IPv6/interface/hostname) and output a multitude of information about a given subnet.
Features include:
- IPv4
- Retrieving of address information from interfaces.
- Classfull and CIDR output.
- Multiple address and netmask input and output formats (dotted quad, hex, number of bits).
- Output of broadcast address, network class, Cisco wildcard, hosts/range, network range.
- The ability to “split” a network based on a smaller netmask, now also with recursive runs on the generated subnets. (also IPv6)
- IPv6
- Compressed and expanded input and output addresses.
- Standard IPv6 network output.
- v4 in v6 output.
- Reverse DNS address generation.
There are three methods to install sipcalc on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install sipcalc Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install sipcalc using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install sipcalc
Install sipcalc Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install sipcalc using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install sipcalc
Install sipcalc Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install sipcalc using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install sipcalc
How To Uninstall sipcalc on Ubuntu
To uninstall only the sipcalc package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove sipcalc
Uninstall sipcalc And Its Dependencies
To uninstall sipcalc and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove sipcalc
Remove sipcalc Configurations and Data
To remove sipcalc configuration and data from Ubuntu we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge sipcalc
Remove sipcalc configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove sipcalc configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge sipcalc
