Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install sift on Ubuntu.
What is sift
sift is:
SIFT is a sequence homology-based tool that sorts intolerant from tolerant amino acid substitutions and predicts whether an amino acid substitution in a protein will have a phenotypic effect. SIFT is based on the premise that protein evolution is correlated with protein function. Positions important for function should be conserved in an alignment of the protein family, whereas unimportant positions should appear diverse in an alignment.
There are three methods to install sift on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install sift Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install sift using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install sift
Install sift Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install sift using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install sift
Install sift Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install sift using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install sift
How To Uninstall sift on Ubuntu
To uninstall only the sift package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove sift
Uninstall sift And Its Dependencies
To uninstall sift and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove sift
Remove sift Configurations and Data
To remove sift configuration and data from Ubuntu we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge sift
