Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install siconos on Ubuntu.
What is siconos
siconos is:
Siconos is an open-source scientific software primarily targeted at modeling and simulating nonsmooth dynamical systems in C++ and in Python:
- Mechanical systems (rigid or solid) with unilateral contact and Coulomb friction and impact (nonsmooth mechanics, contact dynamics, multibody systems dynamics or granular materials).
- Switched Electrical Circuit such as electrical circuits with ideal and piecewise linear components: power converter, rectifier, Phase-Locked Loop (PLL) or Analog-to-Digital converter.
- Sliding mode control systems.
- Biology (Gene regulatory network). Other applications are found in Systems and Control (hybrid systems, differential inclusions, optimal control with state constraints), Optimization (Complementarity systems and Variational inequalities), Fluid Mechanics, and Computer Graphics.
This package contains the ‘siconos’ tool allowing to compile and run Siconos programs/scripts in a single command.
There are three methods to install siconos on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install siconos Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install siconos using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install siconos
Install siconos Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install siconos using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install siconos
Install siconos Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install siconos using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install siconos
How To Uninstall siconos on Ubuntu
To uninstall only the siconos package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove siconos
Uninstall siconos And Its Dependencies
To uninstall siconos and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove siconos
Remove siconos Configurations and Data
To remove siconos configuration and data from Ubuntu we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge siconos
Remove siconos configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove siconos configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge siconos
Dependencies
siconos have the following dependencies:
