In this tutorial we learn how to install shapetools on Ubuntu.
What is shapetools
shapetools is:
ShapeTools is a collection of programs to support software configuration management in an UNIX environment. It consists of a set of version and attribute control commands, and a configuration interpreter and build tool (“shape”). The toolkit is integrated on top of the Attributed File System (AtFS).
ShapeTools is designed to live meaningfully together with any other UNIX tool operating on regular files. This distribution also contains a prototype for a comprehensive change control and release management system designed to manage the evolution of system releases in multi programmer software development efforts.
There are three methods to install shapetools on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install shapetools Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install shapetools using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install shapetools
Install shapetools Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install shapetools using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install shapetools
Install shapetools Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install shapetools using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install shapetools
How To Uninstall shapetools on Ubuntu
To uninstall only the shapetools package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove shapetools
Uninstall shapetools And Its Dependencies
To uninstall shapetools and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove shapetools
Remove shapetools Configurations and Data
To remove shapetools configuration and data from Ubuntu we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge shapetools
Remove shapetools configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove shapetools configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge shapetools
