How To Install ser2net on Ubuntu

Introduction

In this tutorial we learn how to install ser2net on Ubuntu.

What is ser2net

ser2net is:

This daemon allows telnet and tcp sessions to be established with a host’s serial ports. Combined with a terminal emulator, this can be a very simple means to configure network devices or other equipment with a serial port. This is remarkably similar to the reverse telnet feature of some Cisco routers.

There are three methods to install ser2net on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install ser2net Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install ser2net using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install ser2net

Install ser2net Using apt

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install ser2net using apt by running the following command:

sudo apt -y install ser2net

Install ser2net Using aptitude

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install ser2net using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install ser2net

How To Uninstall ser2net on Ubuntu

To uninstall only the ser2net package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove ser2net

Uninstall ser2net And Its Dependencies

To uninstall ser2net and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove ser2net

Remove ser2net Configurations and Data

To remove ser2net configuration and data from Ubuntu we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge ser2net

Remove ser2net configuration, data, and all of its dependencies

We can use the following command to remove ser2net configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge ser2net
