Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install sendxmpp on Ubuntu.
What is sendxmpp
sendxmpp is:
sendxmpp is a perl script to send text XMPP (jabber) messages, similar to what mail(1) and sendmail(1) does for mail.
sendxmpp is useful for monitoring remote servers (it can warn sending xmpp-messages), and watching VCS commit messages (developers are all connected to a XMPP-chatroom to which messages are sent.
XMPP is an open, non-proprietary protocol for instant messaging. See www.jabber.org for more information.
There are three methods to install sendxmpp on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install sendxmpp Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install sendxmpp using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install sendxmpp
Install sendxmpp Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install sendxmpp using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install sendxmpp
Install sendxmpp Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install sendxmpp using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install sendxmpp
How To Uninstall sendxmpp on Ubuntu
To uninstall only the sendxmpp package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove sendxmpp
Uninstall sendxmpp And Its Dependencies
To uninstall sendxmpp and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove sendxmpp
Remove sendxmpp Configurations and Data
To remove sendxmpp configuration and data from Ubuntu we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge sendxmpp
Remove sendxmpp configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove sendxmpp configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge sendxmpp
