In this tutorial we learn how to install sdformat9-sdf on Ubuntu.

What is sdformat9-sdf

sdformat9-sdf is:

SDF is an XML file format that describes environments, objects, and robots in a manner suitable for robotic applications. SDF is capable of representing and describing different physic engines, lighting properties, terrain, static or dynamic objects, and articulated robots with various sensors, and acutators. The format of SDF is also described by XML, which facilitates updates and allows conversion from previous versions. A parser is also contained within this package that reads SDF files and returns a C++ interface.

This package contains SDF (Simulation Description Format) XML files needed by the libsdformat.

There are three methods to install sdformat9-sdf on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install sdformat9-sdf Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install sdformat9-sdf using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install sdformat9-sdf

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install sdformat9-sdf using apt by running the following command:

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install sdformat9-sdf using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install sdformat9-sdf

How To Uninstall sdformat9-sdf on Ubuntu

To uninstall only the sdformat9-sdf package we can use the following command:
