Introduction

In this tutorial we learn how to install science-config on Ubuntu.

What is science-config

science-config is:

This package provides the basic infrastructure of all science-* packages and is needed by them.

These are the science related metapackages in the Debian Science project:

Note: All these packages are so called metapackages. This means they are not executable programs, but only links to other packages. This way you will conveniently get most of scientific free software which is available in Debian.

There are three methods to install science-config on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install science-config Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install science-config using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install science-config

Install science-config Using apt

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install science-config using apt by running the following command:

sudo apt -y install science-config

Install science-config Using aptitude

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install science-config using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install science-config

How To Uninstall science-config on Ubuntu

To uninstall only the science-config package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove science-config

Uninstall science-config And Its Dependencies

To uninstall science-config and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove science-config

Remove science-config Configurations and Data

To remove science-config configuration and data from Ubuntu we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge science-config

Remove science-config configuration, data, and all of its dependencies

We can use the following command to remove science-config configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge science-config
