Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install runawk on Ubuntu.
What is runawk
runawk is:
RunAWK is a small wrapper for AWK interpreter that implements module system (similar to Perl’s “use” command) and helps in writing standalone AWK programs.
This package also provides about a dozen of modules implementing most common string, array and system function.
There are three methods to install runawk on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install runawk Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install runawk using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install runawk
Install runawk Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install runawk using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install runawk
Install runawk Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install runawk using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install runawk
How To Uninstall runawk on Ubuntu
To uninstall only the runawk package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove runawk
Uninstall runawk And Its Dependencies
To uninstall runawk and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove runawk
Remove runawk Configurations and Data
To remove runawk configuration and data from Ubuntu we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge runawk
