How To Install ruby-yell on Ubuntu

Introduction

In this tutorial we learn how to install ruby-yell on Ubuntu.

What is ruby-yell

ruby-yell is:

Define multiple adapters, various log level combinations or message formatting options like you’ve never done before.

Yell works and is tested with ruby 1.8.7, 1.9.x, 2.0.0, jruby 1.8 and 1.9 mode, rubinius 1.8 and 1.9 as well as ree.

There are three methods to install ruby-yell on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install ruby-yell Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install ruby-yell using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install ruby-yell

Install ruby-yell Using apt

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install ruby-yell using apt by running the following command:

sudo apt -y install ruby-yell

Install ruby-yell Using aptitude

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install ruby-yell using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install ruby-yell

How To Uninstall ruby-yell on Ubuntu

To uninstall only the ruby-yell package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove ruby-yell

Uninstall ruby-yell And Its Dependencies

To uninstall ruby-yell and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove ruby-yell

Remove ruby-yell Configurations and Data

To remove ruby-yell configuration and data from Ubuntu we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge ruby-yell

Remove ruby-yell configuration, data, and all of its dependencies

We can use the following command to remove ruby-yell configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge ruby-yell
