Introduction

In this tutorial we learn how to install ruby-timeliness on Ubuntu.

What is ruby-timeliness

ruby-timeliness is:

Date/time parser for Ruby with the following features:

• Extensible with custom formats and tokens.
• Fast, up to 60% faster than Time/Date parse method.
• Control the parser strictness.
• Control behaviour of ambiguous date formats (US vs European e.g. mm/dd/yy, dd/mm/yy).
• I18n support (for months), if I18n gem loaded.
• Works with Ruby MRI >= 2.2

Extracted from the validates_timeliness gem, it has been rewritten cleaner and much faster. It’s most suitable for when one need to control the parsing behaviour.

There are three methods to install ruby-timeliness on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install ruby-timeliness Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install ruby-timeliness using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install ruby-timeliness

Install ruby-timeliness Using apt

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install ruby-timeliness using apt by running the following command:

sudo apt -y install ruby-timeliness

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude -y install ruby-timeliness

How To Uninstall ruby-timeliness on Ubuntu
