on Ubuntu.
What is ruby-rubygems
ruby-rubygems is:
A package (also known as a library) contains a set of functionality that can be invoked by a Ruby program, such as reading and parsing an XML file. These packages are called ‘gems’ and RubyGems is a tool to install, create, manage and load these packages in your Ruby environment. RubyGems is also a client for RubyGems.org, a public repository of Gems that allows you to publish a Gem that can be shared and used by other developers.
There are three methods to install ruby-rubygems
on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get
, apt
and aptitude
. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install ruby-rubygems Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get
using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install ruby-rubygems
using apt-get
by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install ruby-rubygems
Install ruby-rubygems Using apt
Update apt database with apt
using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install ruby-rubygems
using apt
by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install ruby-rubygems
Install ruby-rubygems Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude
using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install ruby-rubygems
using aptitude
by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install ruby-rubygems
How To Uninstall ruby-rubygems on Ubuntu
To uninstall only the ruby-rubygems
package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove ruby-rubygems
Uninstall ruby-rubygems And Its Dependencies
To uninstall ruby-rubygems
and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove ruby-rubygems
Remove ruby-rubygems Configurations and Data
To remove ruby-rubygems
configuration and data from Ubuntu we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge ruby-rubygems
Remove ruby-rubygems configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove ruby-rubygems
configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge ruby-rubygems
