In this tutorial we learn how to install ruby-moneta on Ubuntu.
What is ruby-moneta
ruby-moneta is:
Moneta is a Ruby library to interface with a variety of key/value stores. A short overview of its features:
- support a lot of backends with consistent behaviour,
- allows a full configuration of the serialization -> compression -> adapter stack using proxies (similar to Rack middlewares),
- expiration for all stores,
- atomic operations,
- includes a simple pure-ruby key/value server and client,
- integration with Rails, Rack/Rack-Cache, Sinatra and Ramaze.
There are three methods to install ruby-moneta on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install ruby-moneta Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install ruby-moneta using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install ruby-moneta
Install ruby-moneta Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install ruby-moneta using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install ruby-moneta

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

After updating apt database, We can install ruby-moneta using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install ruby-moneta
How To Uninstall ruby-moneta on Ubuntu
To uninstall only the ruby-moneta package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove ruby-moneta

To uninstall ruby-moneta and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove ruby-moneta

To remove ruby-moneta configuration and data from Ubuntu we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge ruby-moneta
