In this tutorial we learn how to install ruby-kramdown on Ubuntu.
What is ruby-kramdown
ruby-kramdown is:
The kramdown is a fast, pure Ruby, Markdown parser and converter, using a strict syntax definition and supporting several common extensions.
The kramdown library is mainly written to support the kramdown-to-HTML conversion chain. However, due to its flexibility it supports other input and output formats as well. Here is a list of the supported formats:
- input formats: kramdown (a Markdown superset), Markdown, HTML
- output formats: HTML, kramdown, LaTeX (and therefore PDF)
This package contains the ruby library.
There are three methods to install ruby-kramdown on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install ruby-kramdown Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install ruby-kramdown using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install ruby-kramdown
Install ruby-kramdown Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install ruby-kramdown using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install ruby-kramdown
Install ruby-kramdown Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install ruby-kramdown using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install ruby-kramdown
How To Uninstall ruby-kramdown on Ubuntu
To uninstall only the ruby-kramdown package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove ruby-kramdown
Uninstall ruby-kramdown And Its Dependencies
To uninstall ruby-kramdown and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove ruby-kramdown
Remove ruby-kramdown Configurations and Data
To remove ruby-kramdown configuration and data from Ubuntu we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge ruby-kramdown
Remove ruby-kramdown configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove ruby-kramdown configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge ruby-kramdown
