In this tutorial we learn how to install ruby-daemons on Ubuntu.
What is ruby-daemons
ruby-daemons is:
Daemons provides an easy way to wrap existing ruby scripts (for example a self-written server) to be run as a daemon and to be controlled by simple start/stop/restart commands. daemons can also run and control blocks of Ruby code in a daemon process.
There are three methods to install ruby-daemons on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install ruby-daemons Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install ruby-daemons using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install ruby-daemons
Install ruby-daemons Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install ruby-daemons using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install ruby-daemons
Install ruby-daemons Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install ruby-daemons using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install ruby-daemons
How To Uninstall ruby-daemons on Ubuntu
To uninstall only the ruby-daemons package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove ruby-daemons
Uninstall ruby-daemons And Its Dependencies
To uninstall ruby-daemons and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove ruby-daemons
Remove ruby-daemons Configurations and Data
To remove ruby-daemons configuration and data from Ubuntu we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge ruby-daemons
Remove ruby-daemons configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
