In this tutorial we learn how to install ruby-actioncable on Ubuntu.

What is ruby-actioncable

ruby-actioncable is:

Action Cable seamlessly integrates WebSockets with the rest of your Rails application. It allows for real-time features to be written in Ruby in the same style and form as the rest of your Rails application, while still being performant and scalable. It’s a full-stack offering that provides both a client-side JavaScript framework and a server-side Ruby framework. You have access to your full domain model written with Active Record or your ORM of choice.

There are three methods to install ruby-actioncable on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install ruby-actioncable Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install ruby-actioncable using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install ruby-actioncable

Install ruby-actioncable Using apt

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install ruby-actioncable using apt by running the following command:

sudo apt -y install ruby-actioncable

Install ruby-actioncable Using aptitude

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install ruby-actioncable using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install ruby-actioncable

How To Uninstall ruby-actioncable on Ubuntu

To uninstall only the ruby-actioncable package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove ruby-actioncable

Uninstall ruby-actioncable And Its Dependencies

To uninstall ruby-actioncable and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove ruby-actioncable

Remove ruby-actioncable Configurations and Data

To remove ruby-actioncable configuration and data from Ubuntu we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge ruby-actioncable

Remove ruby-actioncable configuration, data, and all of its dependencies

We can use the following command to remove ruby-actioncable configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge ruby-actioncable
