In this tutorial we learn how to install rover on Ubuntu.
What is rover
rover is:
Rover is a text-based light-weight frontend for update-alternatives, which is inspired by the ranger file browser. Compared to existing graphical frontends such as galternatives and kalternatives, Rover still has the following advantages:
- User doesn’t need to move hand off the keyboard.
- Zero GUI overhead, and not bound to graphical environment.
- Supports searching by substring or Python regex.
There are three methods to install rover on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install rover Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install rover using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install rover
Install rover Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install rover using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install rover
Install rover Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install rover using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install rover
How To Uninstall rover on Ubuntu
To uninstall only the rover package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove rover
Uninstall rover And Its Dependencies
To uninstall rover and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove rover
Remove rover Configurations and Data
To remove rover configuration and data from Ubuntu we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge rover
