In this tutorial we learn how to install ri on Ubuntu.
What is ri
ri is:
ri is a command line tool that displays descriptions of built-in Ruby methods, classes, and modules. For methods, it shows you the calling sequence and a description. For classes and modules, it shows a synopsis along with a list of the methods the class or module implements.
This package provides ri command and descriptions about Ruby. This package provides the ri documentation for the Ruby standard library. The ri executable itself is in the ruby package.
This package is a dependency package, which depends on Debian’s default Ruby version (currently v3.0).
There are three methods to install ri on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install ri Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install ri using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install ri
Install ri Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install ri using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install ri
Install ri Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install ri using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install ri
How To Uninstall ri on Ubuntu
To uninstall only the ri package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove ri
Uninstall ri And Its Dependencies
To uninstall ri and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove ri
Remove ri Configurations and Data
To remove ri configuration and data from Ubuntu we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge ri
Remove ri configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove ri configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge ri
