Introduction

In this tutorial we learn how to install rheolef on Ubuntu.

What is rheolef

rheolef is:

Rheolef is a computer environment that serves as a convenient laboratory for computations in applied mathematics involving finite element-like methods. It provides a set of commands and C++ algorithms and containers.

Most basically, containers cover the classic graph data structure for sparse matrix formats and finite element meshes. At a higher level of abstraction, they can handle approximate finite element spaces, discrete fields. Flexible and powerful expressions are used to specify bilinear forms.

Current applications include:

This package provides the rheolef commands. These support input and output in various file formats for mesh-generators and numerical data visualization systems such as paraview, and gnuplot.

There are three methods to install rheolef on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install rheolef Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install rheolef using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install rheolef

Install rheolef Using apt

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install rheolef using apt by running the following command:

sudo apt -y install rheolef

Install rheolef Using aptitude

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install rheolef using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install rheolef

How To Uninstall rheolef on Ubuntu

To uninstall only the rheolef package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove rheolef

Uninstall rheolef And Its Dependencies

To uninstall rheolef and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove rheolef

Remove rheolef Configurations and Data

To remove rheolef configuration and data from Ubuntu we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge rheolef

Remove rheolef configuration, data, and all of its dependencies

We can use the following command to remove rheolef configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge rheolef

Dependencies
