How To Install rgpio-tools on Ubuntu

In this tutorial we learn how to install rgpio-tools on Ubuntu.

What is rgpio-tools

rgpio-tools is:

The rgpiod daemon provides remote control of the GPIO pins of the local computer via TCP sockets. It includes facilities for software PWM, callbacks on level change, I2C, SPI, and UART wrappers. It also provides file handling, script and network facilities.

This package contains the rgs shell utility which can talk to the rgpiod daemon.

There are three methods to install rgpio-tools on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install rgpio-tools Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install rgpio-tools using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install rgpio-tools

Install rgpio-tools Using apt

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install rgpio-tools using apt by running the following command:

sudo apt -y install rgpio-tools

Install rgpio-tools Using aptitude

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install rgpio-tools using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install rgpio-tools

How To Uninstall rgpio-tools on Ubuntu

To uninstall only the rgpio-tools package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove rgpio-tools

Uninstall rgpio-tools And Its Dependencies

To uninstall rgpio-tools and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove rgpio-tools

Remove rgpio-tools Configurations and Data

To remove rgpio-tools configuration and data from Ubuntu we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge rgpio-tools

Remove rgpio-tools configuration, data, and all of its dependencies

We can use the following command to remove rgpio-tools configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge rgpio-tools
