Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install ree on Ubuntu.
What is ree
ree is:
ROM extension extractor (ree) is a tool which extracts ROM extensions from the firmware of a PC computer. This package also comes with fontdump, a program to extract the fonts from your video BIOS.
ree will scan the system memory, address c0000 - f0000 in 512 byte steps for identification of ROM extensions (55,aa). If found, it will calculate its size (byte after id, multiplied by 512byte steps) and save the output to a .rom file.
There are three methods to install ree on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install ree Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install ree using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install ree
Install ree Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install ree using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install ree
Install ree Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install ree using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install ree
How To Uninstall ree on Ubuntu
To uninstall only the ree package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove ree
Uninstall ree And Its Dependencies
To uninstall ree and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove ree
Remove ree Configurations and Data
To remove ree configuration and data from Ubuntu we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge ree
