Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install recutils on Ubuntu.
What is recutils
recutils is:
GNU Recutils is a set of tools and libraries to access human-editable, text-based databases called recfiles.
The data is stored as a sequence of records, each record containing an arbitrary number of named fields.
Despite its simplicity, recfiles can be used to store medium-sized databases.
There are three methods to install recutils on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install recutils Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install recutils using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install recutils
Install recutils Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install recutils using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install recutils
Install recutils Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install recutils using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install recutils
How To Uninstall recutils on Ubuntu
To uninstall only the recutils package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove recutils
Uninstall recutils And Its Dependencies
To uninstall recutils and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove recutils
Remove recutils Configurations and Data
To remove recutils configuration and data from Ubuntu we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge recutils
Remove recutils configuration, data, and all of its dependencies

sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge recutils
