How To Install rbd-nbd on Ubuntu

In this tutorial we learn how to install rbd-nbd on Ubuntu.

What is rbd-nbd

rbd-nbd is:

Ceph is a massively scalable, open-source, distributed storage system that runs on commodity hardware and delivers object, block and file system storage. This is a NBD-based client that allows one to map Ceph rbd images as local block device.

NBD base client that allows one to map Ceph rbd images as local block device.

There are three methods to install rbd-nbd on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install rbd-nbd Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install rbd-nbd using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install rbd-nbd

Install rbd-nbd Using apt

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install rbd-nbd using apt by running the following command:

sudo apt -y install rbd-nbd

Install rbd-nbd Using aptitude

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install rbd-nbd using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install rbd-nbd

How To Uninstall rbd-nbd on Ubuntu

To uninstall only the rbd-nbd package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove rbd-nbd

Uninstall rbd-nbd And Its Dependencies

To uninstall rbd-nbd and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove rbd-nbd

Remove rbd-nbd Configurations and Data

To remove rbd-nbd configuration and data from Ubuntu we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge rbd-nbd

Remove rbd-nbd configuration, data, and all of its dependencies

We can use the following command to remove rbd-nbd configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge rbd-nbd
