Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install rawdns on Ubuntu.
What is rawdns
rawdns is:
“rawdns” is a DNS forwarder that allows for DNS requests to return the IP addresses of Docker containers directly.
For example, if one has a container named “app”, then a request for “app.docker” would return the IP address of that container. Likewise, if the “app” container has a linked database container whose alias name is “db”, then a request for “db.app.docker” would return the IP address of the linked database container.
There are three methods to install rawdns on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install rawdns Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install rawdns using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install rawdns
Install rawdns Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install rawdns using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install rawdns
Install rawdns Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install rawdns using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install rawdns
How To Uninstall rawdns on Ubuntu
To uninstall only the rawdns package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove rawdns
Uninstall rawdns And Its Dependencies
To uninstall rawdns and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove rawdns
Remove rawdns Configurations and Data
To remove rawdns configuration and data from Ubuntu we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge rawdns

We can use the following command to remove rawdns configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
