Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install rasterio on Ubuntu.
What is rasterio
rasterio is:
Rasterio reads and writes geospatial raster datasets.
Rasterio employs GDAL under the hood for file I/O and raster formatting. Its functions typically accept and return Numpy ndarrays. Rasterio is designed to make working with geospatial raster data more productive and more fun.
This package contains a command-line line interface to rasterio “rasterio” which can be used to inspect raster datasets.
There are three methods to install rasterio on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install rasterio Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install rasterio using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install rasterio
Install rasterio Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install rasterio using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install rasterio
Install rasterio Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install rasterio using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install rasterio
How To Uninstall rasterio on Ubuntu
To uninstall only the rasterio package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove rasterio
Uninstall rasterio And Its Dependencies
To uninstall rasterio and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove rasterio
Remove rasterio Configurations and Data
To remove rasterio configuration and data from Ubuntu we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge rasterio

We can use the following command to remove rasterio configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
