Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install rasdaemon on Ubuntu.
What is rasdaemon
rasdaemon is:
rasdaemon is a RAS (Reliability, Availability and Serviceability) logging tool. It currently records memory errors, using the EDAC tracing events. EDAC are drivers in the Linux kernel that handle detection of ECC errors from memory controllers for most chipsets on x86 and ARM architectures. This userspace component consists of an init script which makes sure EDAC drivers and DIMM labels are loaded at system startup, as well as a utility for reporting current error counts from the EDAC sysfs files.
There are three methods to install rasdaemon on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install rasdaemon Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install rasdaemon using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install rasdaemon
Install rasdaemon Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install rasdaemon using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install rasdaemon
Install rasdaemon Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install rasdaemon using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install rasdaemon
How To Uninstall rasdaemon on Ubuntu
To uninstall only the rasdaemon package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove rasdaemon
Uninstall rasdaemon And Its Dependencies
To uninstall rasdaemon and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove rasdaemon
Remove rasdaemon Configurations and Data
To remove rasdaemon configuration and data from Ubuntu we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge rasdaemon
Remove rasdaemon configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove rasdaemon configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge rasdaemon
