Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install rampler on Ubuntu.
What is rampler
rampler is:
Standalone module for sampling genomic sequences. It supports two modes, random subsampling of sequencer data to a desired depth (given the reference length) and file splitting to desired size in bytes.
Rampler takes as first input argument a file in FASTA/FASTQ format which can be compressed with gzip. The rest of input parameters depend on the mode of operation. The output is stored into a file(s) which is in the same format as the input file but uncompressed.
There are three methods to install rampler on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install rampler Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install rampler using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install rampler
Install rampler Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install rampler using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install rampler
Install rampler Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install rampler using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install rampler
How To Uninstall rampler on Ubuntu
To uninstall only the rampler package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove rampler
Uninstall rampler And Its Dependencies
To uninstall rampler and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove rampler
Remove rampler Configurations and Data
To remove rampler configuration and data from Ubuntu we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge rampler
