In this tutorial we learn how to install racket on Ubuntu.
What is racket
racket is:
Racket (previously PLT Scheme) is a programming language suitable for scripting and application development, including GUIs and web services.
It supports the creation of new programming languages through a rich, expressive syntax system. Supplied languages include Typed Racket, ACL2, FrTime, and Lazy Racket, and R6RS Scheme.
Racket includes the DrRacket programming environment, a virtual machine with a just-in-time compiler, tools for creating stand-alone executables, the Racket web server, extensive libraries, and documentation for both beginners and experts.
There are three methods to install racket on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install racket Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install racket using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install racket
Install racket Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install racket using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install racket
Install racket Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install racket using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install racket
How To Uninstall racket on Ubuntu
To uninstall only the racket package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove racket

To uninstall racket and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove racket
Remove racket Configurations and Data
To remove racket configuration and data from Ubuntu we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge racket
