In this tutorial we learn how to install r-cran-getopt on Ubuntu.
What is r-cran-getopt

This package provides the getopt function which can be used with R’s Rscript (or littler’s r) to write ``#!’’ shebang scripts that accept short and long flags/options.
There are three methods to install r-cran-getopt on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
