In this tutorial we learn how to install quake-server on Ubuntu.
What is quake-server
quake-server is:
This package contains a launcher script and init script to run a Quake 1 server automatically, with any suitable engine.
To make this package useful, you will need to create and install the non-distributable quake-registered or quake-shareware package, by using the game-data-packager package.
There are three methods to install quake-server on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install quake-server Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install quake-server using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install quake-server
Install quake-server Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install quake-server using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install quake-server
Install quake-server Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install quake-server using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install quake-server
How To Uninstall quake-server on Ubuntu
To uninstall only the quake-server package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove quake-server
Uninstall quake-server And Its Dependencies
To uninstall quake-server and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove quake-server
Remove quake-server Configurations and Data
To remove quake-server configuration and data from Ubuntu we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge quake-server
