Introduction

In this tutorial we learn how to install qiv on Ubuntu.

What is `qiv`

qiv is:

Quick Image Viewer (qiv) is a very small and pretty fast GDK/Imlib image viewer. Features include zoom, maxpect, scale down, fullscreen, brightness/contrast/gamma correction, slideshow, pan with keyboard and mouse, rotate left/right, flip, delete (move to .qiv-trash/), jump to image x, jump forward/backward x images, filename filter, and you can use qiv to set your X11-Desktop background.

qiv also supports the assignment of external commands (like metacam) to unused keys.

There are three methods to install qiv on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install qiv Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install qiv using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install qiv

Install qiv Using apt

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install qiv using apt by running the following command:

sudo apt -y install qiv

Install qiv Using aptitude

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install qiv using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install qiv

How To Uninstall qiv on Ubuntu

To uninstall only the qiv package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove qiv

Uninstall qiv And Its Dependencies

To uninstall qiv and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove qiv

Remove qiv Configurations and Data

To remove qiv configuration and data from Ubuntu we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge qiv

Remove qiv configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
