In this tutorial we learn how to install python3-pycsw on Ubuntu.
What is python3-pycsw
python3-pycsw is:
pycsw is an OGC CSW server implementation written in Python. pycsw fully implements the OpenGIS Catalogue Service Implementation Specification (Catalogue Service for the Web). Initial development started in 2010 (more formally announced in 2011). The project is certified OGC Compliant, and is an OGC Reference Implementation. Since 2015, pycsw is an official OSGeo Project. pycsw allows for the publishing and discovery of geospatial metadata via numerous APIs (CSW 2/CSW 3, OpenSearch, OAI-PMH, SRU). Existing repositories of geospatial metadata can also be exposed, providing a standards-based metadata and catalogue component of spatial data infrastructures. pycsw is Open Source, released under an MIT license, and runs on all major platforms (Windows, Linux, Mac OS X).
This package the pycsw module for Python 3.
There are three methods to install python3-pycsw on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install python3-pycsw Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install python3-pycsw using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install python3-pycsw
Install python3-pycsw Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install python3-pycsw using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install python3-pycsw
Install python3-pycsw Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install python3-pycsw using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install python3-pycsw
How To Uninstall python3-pycsw on Ubuntu
To uninstall only the python3-pycsw package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove python3-pycsw
Uninstall python3-pycsw And Its Dependencies
To uninstall python3-pycsw and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove python3-pycsw
Remove python3-pycsw Configurations and Data
To remove python3-pycsw configuration and data from Ubuntu we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge python3-pycsw
Remove python3-pycsw configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove python3-pycsw configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge python3-pycsw
