Introduction

In this tutorial we learn how to install python3-mwclient on Ubuntu.

What is python3-mwclient

python3-mwclient is:

mwclient is a lightweight Python client library to the MediaWiki API which provides access to most API functionality. It works with Python 2.7, 3.3 and above, and supports MediaWiki 1.16 and above. For functions not available in the current MediaWiki, a MediaWikiVersionError is raised.

Most properties and generators accept the same parameters as the API, without their two-letter prefix. Exceptions to this rule:

Properties and generators are implemented as Python generators. Their limit parameter is only an indication of the number of items in one chunk. It is not the total limit. Doing list(generator(limit = limit)) will return ALL items of generator, and not be limited by the limit value. Default chunk size is generally the maximum chunk size.

There are three methods to install python3-mwclient on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install python3-mwclient Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install python3-mwclient using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install python3-mwclient

Install python3-mwclient Using apt

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install python3-mwclient using apt by running the following command:

sudo apt -y install python3-mwclient

Install python3-mwclient Using aptitude

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install python3-mwclient using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install python3-mwclient

How To Uninstall python3-mwclient on Ubuntu

To uninstall only the python3-mwclient package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove python3-mwclient

Uninstall python3-mwclient And Its Dependencies

To uninstall python3-mwclient and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove python3-mwclient

Remove python3-mwclient Configurations and Data

To remove python3-mwclient configuration and data from Ubuntu we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge python3-mwclient

Remove python3-mwclient configuration, data, and all of its dependencies

We can use the following command to remove python3-mwclient configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge python3-mwclient
