Introduction

In this tutorial we learn how to install pypy-dev on Ubuntu.

What is pypy-dev

pypy-dev is:

Header files for compiling cpython C extension modules for use with PyPy. Note that pure Python modules will probably perform better.

PyPy supports a subset of cpython’s C API through its CPyExt subsystem.

PyPy is a fast, compliant alternative implementation of the Python language (2.7).

There are three methods to install pypy-dev on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install pypy-dev Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install pypy-dev using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install pypy-dev

Install pypy-dev Using apt

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install pypy-dev using apt by running the following command:

sudo apt -y install pypy-dev

Install pypy-dev Using aptitude

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install pypy-dev using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install pypy-dev

How To Uninstall pypy-dev on Ubuntu

To uninstall only the pypy-dev package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove pypy-dev

Uninstall pypy-dev And Its Dependencies

To uninstall pypy-dev and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove pypy-dev

Remove pypy-dev Configurations and Data

To remove pypy-dev configuration and data from Ubuntu we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge pypy-dev

Remove pypy-dev configuration, data, and all of its dependencies

We can use the following command to remove pypy-dev configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge pypy-dev
