In this tutorial we learn how to install pyppd on Ubuntu.
What is pyppd
pyppd is:
pyppd is a CUPS PPD generator. It holds an compressed archive of PPDs, which can be listed and retrieved only when needed by CUPS, saving disk space.
This tool is mostly useful as build-dependency for printing driver packages. For this use, it provides a Debian-specific dh_pyppd Debhelper addon that handles the pyppd launch and the cleanup after it.
There are three methods to install pyppd on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install pyppd Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install pyppd using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install pyppd

Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install pyppd using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install pyppd
Install pyppd Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install pyppd using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install pyppd
How To Uninstall pyppd on Ubuntu
To uninstall only the pyppd package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove pyppd
Uninstall pyppd And Its Dependencies
To uninstall pyppd and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove pyppd
Remove pyppd Configurations and Data
To remove pyppd configuration and data from Ubuntu we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge pyppd
