Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install puredata-extra on Ubuntu.
What is puredata-extra
puredata-extra is:
Pure Data (also known as Pd) is a real-time graphical programming environment for audio and graphics processing.
This package provides extra objects that come with Pd, e.g. for signal analysis (fiddle~, sigmund~, bonk~) and more.
The objects for expression evaluation (expr~) have been included into puredata-core, so they are no longer part of this package.
There are three methods to install puredata-extra on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install puredata-extra Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install puredata-extra using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install puredata-extra
Install puredata-extra Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install puredata-extra using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install puredata-extra
Install puredata-extra Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install puredata-extra using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install puredata-extra
How To Uninstall puredata-extra on Ubuntu
To uninstall only the puredata-extra package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove puredata-extra
Uninstall puredata-extra And Its Dependencies
To uninstall puredata-extra and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove puredata-extra
Remove puredata-extra Configurations and Data
To remove puredata-extra configuration and data from Ubuntu we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge puredata-extra

We can use the following command to remove puredata-extra configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
