Introduction

In this tutorial we learn how to install pskctool on Ubuntu.

What is pskctool

pskctool is:

OATH Toolkit provide components to build one-time password authentication systems. It contains shared C libraries, command line tools and a PAM module. Supported technologies include the event-based HOTP algorithm (RFC 4226), the time-based TOTP algorithm (RFC 6238), and Portable Symmetric Key Container (PSKC, RFC 6030) to manage secret key data. OATH stands for Open AuTHentication, which is the organization that specify the algorithms.

This package contains the OATH Toolkit “pskctool” command line tool.

There are three methods to install pskctool on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install pskctool Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install pskctool using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install pskctool

Install pskctool Using apt

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install pskctool using apt by running the following command:

sudo apt -y install pskctool

Install pskctool Using aptitude

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install pskctool using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install pskctool

How To Uninstall pskctool on Ubuntu

To uninstall only the pskctool package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove pskctool

Uninstall pskctool And Its Dependencies

To uninstall pskctool and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove pskctool

Remove pskctool Configurations and Data

To remove pskctool configuration and data from Ubuntu we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge pskctool

Remove pskctool configuration, data, and all of its dependencies

We can use the following command to remove pskctool configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge pskctool
