Introduction

In this tutorial we learn how to install psensor-server on Ubuntu.

What is `psensor-server`

psensor-server is:

Psensor server is an HTTP server providing a JSON Web service which can be used by Psensor GTK+ Application to monitor remotely the hardware sensors of a computer.

It can provide information about:

the temperature of the motherboard and CPU sensors (using lm-sensors).
the temperature of the NVidia GPUs (using XNVCtrl).
the temperature of the Hard Disk Drives (using hddtemp).
the rotation speed of the fans (using lm-sensors).

It is also possible to connect to Psensor server with a browser, a simple Web page is displaying the information.

There are three methods to install psensor-server on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install psensor-server Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install psensor-server using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install psensor-server

Install psensor-server Using apt

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install psensor-server using apt by running the following command:

sudo apt -y install psensor-server

Install psensor-server Using aptitude

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install psensor-server using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install psensor-server
