Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install prusa-slicer on Ubuntu.
What is prusa-slicer
prusa-slicer is:
PrusaSlicer converts digital 3D models into printing instructions (G-code) for your 3D printer. It cuts the model into horizontal slices (layers), generates toolpaths to fill them and calculates the amount of material to be extruded.
PrusaSlicer supports input in the STL, AMF and OBJ formats, and can output G-code for several series of 3D printers, including RepRap, Ultimaker, Makerbot, as well as SVG files for DLP printers.
It can be used with a graphical interface, or in batch mode via the command-line.
There are three methods to install prusa-slicer on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install prusa-slicer Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install prusa-slicer using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install prusa-slicer
Install prusa-slicer Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install prusa-slicer using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install prusa-slicer
Install prusa-slicer Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install prusa-slicer using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install prusa-slicer
How To Uninstall prusa-slicer on Ubuntu
To uninstall only the prusa-slicer package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove prusa-slicer
Uninstall prusa-slicer And Its Dependencies
To uninstall prusa-slicer and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove prusa-slicer
Remove prusa-slicer Configurations and Data
To remove prusa-slicer configuration and data from Ubuntu we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge prusa-slicer
Remove prusa-slicer configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove prusa-slicer configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge prusa-slicer
