Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install proalign on Ubuntu.
What is proalign
proalign is:
ProAlign performs probabilistic sequence alignments using hidden Markov models (HMM). It includes a graphical interface (GUI) allowing to (i) perform alignments of nucleotide or amino-acid sequences, (ii) view the quality of solutions, (iii) filter the unreliable alignment regions and (iv) export alignments to other software.
ProAlign uses a progressive method, such that multiple alignment is created stepwise by performing pairwise alignments in the nodes of a guide tree. Sequences are described with vectors of character probabilities, and each pairwise alignment reconstructs the ancestral (parent) sequence by computing the probabilities of different characters according to an evolutionary model.
There are three methods to install proalign on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install proalign Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install proalign using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install proalign
Install proalign Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install proalign using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install proalign
Install proalign Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install proalign using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install proalign
How To Uninstall proalign on Ubuntu
To uninstall only the proalign package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove proalign
Uninstall proalign And Its Dependencies
To uninstall proalign and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove proalign
Remove proalign Configurations and Data
To remove proalign configuration and data from Ubuntu we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge proalign
Remove proalign configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove proalign configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge proalign
Dependencies
proalign have the following dependencies:
